Everyone knows Juan Margallo was considered the backbone of theatre movie in spain and he passed away on the 2nd March 2025 at the age of 84. This announcement was made by the actors and dancers management entity (AISGE).

Margallo’s farewell ceremony will take place on Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the crematorium of La Almudena cemetery in Madrid. A tribute is also being prepared in his honor that will take place in one or two weeks.

Who was Juan Margallo?

On September 24, 1940, Juan Francisco Margallo Rivera was born in Cáceres, Spain. Margallo, who was constantly accompanied by Petra Martínez, was a pivotal player in independent theater that opposed the final years of Franco’s rule and regularly caused problems for the administration.

Both carried on with this job in the early years of democracy. Before starting the company Uroc in the middle of the 1980s, they were members of well-known theater companies like Tábano, El Búho, and El Gayo Vallecano in the 1960s and 1970s. They performed plays by playwrights such Dario Fo, Roberto Athayde, Jorge Márquez, and Margallo himself with this company.

In 1960, Juan Margallo enrolled at the School of Dramatic Art and soon began working with the renowned directors of the era, José Luis Alonso, José Tamayo, and Luis Escobar.

Margallo also appeared in films such as Los flamencos (1966), El espíritu de la colmena (1973), El aire de un crimen (1988), Chevrolet (1997), El invierno de las anjanas (2000), Al sur de Granada (2002), Campeones (2018), Cerca los ojos (2023) and Campeonex (2023). For Campeones he was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor award at the 2019 Goya Awards.
