A colleague of Cristinao Ronaldos, Luka Modric, is a Croatian footballer who is undeniably the best midfield player in history despite his small stature.

Though he can play as an attacking or a defensive midfielder, his actual and major position on the ground is center midfielder.

Modrić is an excellent football player thought to be included among the most brilliant and talented football players of his generation. He can play in every position in midfield, either in defense or offense.

The creative midfielder was born in Zadar, Croatia, on September 9, 1985.

It was also reported that he was raised in a tough neighborhood during the Croatian War of Independence.

Luka started playing football with NK Zadar when he was younger. At sixteen years old in 2001, he then joined the Dinamo Zagreb youth team. Afterwards, in 2002, the Croatian was loaned to Zrinjski Mostar where he did very well.

His genius saw him win the Bosnian league’s player of the season award. In 2004, he was again loaned out to Inter Zapresic.

Following his stints with Zrinjski and Zapresic where he scored 12 in 40, Luka returned to Zagreb and penned a 10-year deal with the club. The midfielder was on target seven times in thirty-one outings that saw Dinamo Zagreb win the league during the 2005–06 season.
Next Season
In the next season, he again contributed to Zagreb’s league success scoring six times and creating ten.

In 2018, the Croatian beat the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to win the prestigious Ballon d’Or award. He was also the first player from Croatia to win the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award.

His contract with Real Madrid and Luka will run out in 2022, but he is expected to remain through 2023 after playing an integral role in the team’s midfield alongside Toni Kroos and Casemiro. Real supporters will want their team’s best player to retire there.

Luka began playing for the Croatia national football team from the time he joined in 2006, amassing up to 112 caps with 14 goals to date. In addition, he led his nation into the finals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where they lost to France. This midfielder won the title of the tournament MVP.
