Is TikTok Back In US?
Yes but not fully because of the announcement follows Trump’s promise that he would issue an executive order to allow the parent business of the app additional time to find a buyer.
“TikTok is working to restore service in accordance with our service suppliers. The company that operates TikTok posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, “We are grateful to President Trump for giving our service providers the clarity and assurance they need to know that they will not be penalized for giving TikTok to more than 170 million Americans and enabling more than 7 million small businesses to prosper.”
It is a resounding defense of the First Amendment and an opposition to capricious censorship. We’ll collaborate with President Trump to find a sustainable solution that retains TikTok in the US.
Shortly after TikTok’s announcement, some users reported that the app was functional once more and that, for at least some users, the TikTok website was operational. TikTok was still not available for download in the Google and Apple app stores, even as it was flickering back on.
The announcement follows President-elect Donald Trump’s promise that he would issue an executive order to allow the parent business of the app additional time to find a buyer before the well-known video-sharing network faces a permanent ban.
As millions of TikTok users in the United States woke up to find they could no longer access the TikTok app or platform, Trump made the announcement in a post on his Truth Social account. According to a federal statute, Google and Apple had to take the app down from their digital stores if TikTok parent company ByteDance didn’t sell its U.S. business by Sunday.
If a successful transaction is in progress, the legislation allows the current president to issue a 90-day extension. Despite a few bids from investors, ByteDance has previously stated that company would not sell. It was unclear at first if Trump was talking to the government or an American business when he stated in his statement on Sunday that he “would like the United States to have a 50% ownership position in a joint venture.”
Trump added, “By doing this, we save TikTok, keep it in good hands, and let it say up.” “There would be no Tik Tok without U.S. clearance. It is worth hundreds of billions, if not trillions, of dollars with our permission.
Most users were caught off guard by the service outage that TikTok implemented hours in advance. According to experts, the rule as written only required app shops to remove TikTok’s platform, not the company itself. Up until the app ceased functioning because of a lack of updates, current users were supposed to have access to videos.
In 2020, during his first term in office, Trump issued executive orders that banned the Chinese messaging programs WeChat and TikTok. These actions were later rejected by courts. But last year, when a ban gained traction in Congress, he fought the bill. Since then, Trump has acknowledged that TikTok helped him garner the favor of young people during the previous presidential election.
