Irv Gotti Dead; Obituary, Cause Of Death
Irv Gotti, a music super producer who collaborated with major artists including DMX, Ja Rule, and Ashanti, has away. TMZ has verified.
According to several people close to his family, he passed away in New York City on Wednesday. The cause of his death is still unknown.
Since having a stroke last year, Irv has struggled with health issues and has needed to use a cane to walk.
The well-known head of Murder Inc. Records has been candid about his battles with diabetes, claiming that he didn’t always take his insulin as prescribed. Irv added that he was finding it difficult to follow his physicians’ advice to alter his diet.
Although we were informed that Irv was improving his diet as a result, a representative claimed that diabetes was a contributing factor in his stroke.
During his illustrious hip-hop career, Gotti produced “Can I Live” for Jay-Z’s debut album “Reasonable Doubt.”
Irv signed DMX while he was with Def Jam, and he was executive producer of the artist’s debut studio album, “It’s Dark and Hell is Hot.” Under the Def Jam banner, he finally established his company, Murder Inc., whose first release was Ja Rule’s debut album, “Venni Vetti Vecci.”
Vanessa Carlton was also signed to a record deal by Gotti, who also produced her 2007 album “Heroes & Thieves.”
A few years back, Irv and his former artist Ashanti got into a verbal sparring match when he talked candidly about their “relationship” in an episode of “Drink Champs,” which has since become famous. Saying it was never that important to her, she retaliated, accusing Gotti of becoming sour and losing control of her career.
The 2022 BET documentary “The Murder Inc Story” focused on the growth of Irv’s label. Ashanti felt that this was another factor in their feud because she declined to appear in the three-part series.
